The Child Welfare Research Program
News!
The Spring and Summer groups for Fostering Futures have started! Each group meets
once a week with other foster parents to discuss strategies to support the healthy
development of foster children.
The Child Welfare Research Program conducts research and training and provides service
to children and their families involved in the child welfare and court systems. The
work provides a scientific basis for strategies and programs developed to aide these
families. The Center is directed by Wendy Nilsen, Ph.D. who is a clinical child
psychologist and an assistant professor of psychiatry in the Center for the Study and
Prevention of Suicide and the Wynne Center for Family Research. Her work attempts to
bridge multiple disciplines to create programs that improve outcomes for these children
and their families. The team’s current programs include Fostering Futures, Kids
Club, and the Monroe County Court’s Children’s Center, as
well as a central role in the Monroe County Babies Can’t Wait Program.
