Family Therapy Training program
The programs emphasize strength based and culturally sensitive approaches to psychotherapy, based on a biopsychosocial approach. A rich, multi-disciplinary context prepares well-trained health professionals who can work in a variety of workplace environments ranging from mental health and behavioral health programs to community agencies, school based programs and medical settings. Part of the Health Sciences Program of the Offices of Graduate Education (OGE), we are based in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Our programs are an integral part of the Department’s Family Programs consisting of the Family Therapy Training Program (FTTP), Strong Family Therapy Services (SFTS) and the Wynne Center for Family Research (WCFR). Medical family therapy is a hallmark of the program, and our faculty is well recognized for their innovations in the development of integrative and interdisciplinary approaches to treatment. Opportunity for students to work closely with clinical and research faculty provide students a broad range of experience with a diverse client population. Students will receive education and training in the major approaches to individual, couple and family therapy conceptual and clinical models, theories of individual and family development across the life cycle and basic quantitative and qualitative research methods.
