Advising
Overview

Candace Gildner
The thing that really stands out for me is how supportive and approachable the faculty are. They are very caring about students.
An advisory program has been instituted to provide longitudinal guidance and mentorship for MD/PhD students. Dr O'Banion is the Director of the MD/PhD Advisory Program and two other physician-scientists, Dr. Mark Taubman and Dr. Regis O'Keefe, serve as Assistant Directors. Upon matriculation, students are assigned to one of the three Directors.
The students also meet bi-annually with their Advisory Director to review progress through the MD/PhD program. The Advisory Director approves laboratory rotations, reviews the student's laboratory rotation report, and helps with the selection of laboratory rotations and thesis projects. The Advisory Director also helps oversee the transition from graduate school to medical school and has input into the Dean's letter.
