On Call Responsibilities

The issue of night and weekend call responsibilities is of obvious interest and concern to every resident applicant. Currently, residents take call from home and are "on call" every third or fourth night and every third or fourth weekend. Residents are expected to respond promptly to pages, and to come in to see the patient if there is a significant change in his/her condition. In general, call has not been particularly onerous, with most issues able to be handled over the phone. An attending is always on-call with the resident and the resident is encouraged to call the attending with any significant questions or concerns.
