Chair Welcome

chariAt the University of Rochester Medical Center, we are dedicated to helping each Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation resident advance his or her career. Each trainee teams up with a faculty advisor and research mentor. In addition, each trainee receives a Hospital House Staff Association membership, as well as memberships in the Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) and American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R). Residents also receive money for books and travel related to Continuing Medical Education.

Few programs offer our style of structured teaching, in which residents take part in teaching along with the faculty. Residents enjoy other unique learning opportunities, such as participation in the Upstate New York Consortium , which involves PM&R experts from Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and now Cleveland, Ohio. Our humanistic emphasis prepares each of our graduates to learn, teach and practice medicine with high levels of professionalism, care and discipline.

As a prospective resident, you should be aware of the thorough exam and career preparation we offer, resulting in 100 percent of our graduates passing their board examinations. These are among the reasons we receive more qualified applications each year, and why entrance to our residency program is increasingly competitive.

I graduated from this program in 1976 and I have thrived here for more than three decades. Both URMC and the Rochester community have provided me with educational and cultural opportunities that have enriched my career and my life. My family and I are very pleased with the diversity and richness that Rochester offers. I’m confident that you will be, too.

Are you a match for our thriving program? We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

K. Rao Poduri, M.D.
