Chair Welcome

For 2006, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Strong Memorial Hospital—our primary teaching facility—among the best in the country for ENT. This recognition is much appreciated and, we believe, very much deserved.

We’re fortunate to be part of URMC—a forward-thinking, well-funded, highly respected medical enterprise. Our activities, and now our department, have flourished in the clinical, research and academic environments that exist here. In that environment we have taken it upon ourselves to create a department that emphasizes quality over quantity.

For example, our residency program is smaller than most. But the opportunities for close and constant interaction with our exceptional nine-member faculty are far greater than at most other otolaryngology residency programs. That characteristic is made part of our program by design. U.S. News & World Report’s recognition speaks for itself in terms of our program’s quality.

I invite you to give serious consideration to whether you should spend the next phase of your medical career with us. We would be delighted to assist your evaluation of our Otolaryngology Residency Program in any way. And we look forward to your application.

Sincerely,

Arthur S. Hengerer, M.D., FACS
Professor and Chair, Department of Otolaryngology
