A Letter from the ResidentsWelcome to the Neurology Program at the University of Rochester! As you begin your application process you will want to consider several factors in choosing the program that is right for you. Ideally the program should balance excellence in teaching, clinical experiences, exposures to experts in neurologic subspecialties and lifestyle factors including social opportunities, cost of living, and a family-friendly atmosphere. We have chosen to train at the University of Rochester because of the great balance of all of these factors in our program. The University of Rochester Neurology Department is known as a national leader in research funding, clinical pursuits, and excellence in residency training. We have many internationally recognized faculty in a multitude of subspecialty areas including movement disorders, neuro-oncology, neuromuscular diseases, epilepsy, child neurology, headaches and neuroimmunology. Teaching is the top priority in our program and this comes in a variety of forms including daily bedside rounds, structured lectures, professor rounds, and many opportunities for electives in the aforementioned subspecialties. Although residency is hard work it is also very important to consider your lifestyle outside of work. The residents in our program are friends, which creates a collegial atmosphere at work and affords social opportunities outside of work. We enjoy many planned social events together including barbeques, holiday parties (including the world famous “Labor Day Festival”), golfing, softball and camping to name just a few. The city of Rochester itself is known for its beautiful park systems, fun festivals, high quality museums and classical music, excellent school districts, and affordable living, which makes it a great place to live and work. The emphasis in our program is achieving a great education in neurology, while enjoying the time spent learning. We are looking for applicants from diverse backgrounds who share our love of neurology and a hardworking collegial attitude. If you have similar goals please consider applying to our program! We look forward to meeting you during the interview process, and please feel free to contact us with any questions.
