Cost of Graduate Study

Tuition and Fees

Anticipated tuition for the 2008-2009 academic year is $36,416. All full-time students pay a mandatory health fee ($600 in 2008-2009), which covers the cost of visits made to University Health Service. Full-time students are required to have health insurance coverage. Students may remain on their own or a family member's insurance or enroll in the BlueCross/BlueShield insurance offered through University Health Service. In 2008-2009 the annual fee for a single health insurance plan is expected to be $1,128.

Financial Assistance

The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry offers fellowships and scholarships on a competitive basis for full-time graduate study at the doctoral level only. The costs of tuition, the mandatory health fee, and single health insurance coverage are waived for fully-funded doctoral students. In addition, a well-qualified beginning graduate student may receive a stipend of up to $25,000 for the academic year (including summer). Doctoral students are expected to assist with teaching duties and consulting projects in the Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology. Advanced students may be supported as research assistants or instructors. A traineeship in environmental health biostatistics funded by the National Institutes of Health is also available for U.S. citizens and permanent residents and covers both stipend and tuition.

Masters students generally rely on need-based financial aid in lieu of school assistance. The School of Medicine and Dentistry Financial Aid Office web site provides information about the aid programs that our students use most frequently. Most resources require the submission of a financial statement to enable the Financial Aid Office to determine and certify eligibility. Several programs are federally funded and have regulatory requirements that must be addressed through the application process. Application materials can be obtained directly from the Financial Aid Office or found on their web site.
