Interest Groups

A) Bioethics Journal Club

This informal interdisciplinary group of health care workers, faculty, medical students, and residents meets one evening each month to discuss a paper which is distributed in advance. The papers discussed typically address current controversies and issues in clinical ethics. Contact: Tim Madigan, email: tmadigan@rochester.rr.com

B) Literature and Medicine Reading Group

This group, comprised of medical students across all four years, meets monthly to discuss a wide variety of literary texts (poems, short stories, excerpts from novels) which address medical, cultural, and ethical issues, illness experiences by patients and families, experiences by medical students and residents, and other good books. C) History of Medicine - Corner Society

The George Washington Corner Society, named after U of R's first professor of anatomy, is a group of physicians, students and other participants interested in the history of medicine. The group meets five evenings each year; each evening includes an invited lecture on an historical subject, along with drinks and dinner. D) Annual Film Series

Interested students and faculty organize an annual film series around a specific topic. Typically, six films are shown in one of the auditoriums at the medical school on one evening/month over six months. Contact: Stephanie Brown Clark, tel: 5-6469; email:

E) Reader's Theatre Group
