URMC News FeedsA news feed, or RSS feed, is a listing of a website's content. It allows you to subscribe to the content of the site using a news reader or your Web browser, and is especially useful for content that changes frequently. You can even add feeds to some custom portal sites such as MyYahoo. News readers check a feed regularly for new content and notify you when new content is available. The URMC Press Release feed contains headlines, story abstracts and links to the full story. How do I subscribe to URMC news feeds? You will need a news reader or a RSS-aware browser such as Firefox or Safari. News reader software is easier to use and more customizable than a browser however. Please see the list of news readers mentioned below. Once you install a news reader, point it to the addesses below for each feed you want to subscribe to.
News ReadersAlmost all news websites (CNN, NYTimes, and even ESPN) syndicate their content via RSS. Using a news reader will enable you to quickly scan the latest headlines from these sites (and others) without having to visit them with your browser. News readers check for updated content at regular intervals (typically, every 30 minutes) and notify you when new information is available. Some commonly used news readers are Feed Demon and NewsGator (an Outlook plugin) for Windows, NetNewsWire and Shrook for Macs. You can find more news readers at Wikipedia.org. |
