Dr. Bakos earned his medical degree from St. Louis University, and completed residencies in general surgery and neurosurgery at Strong Memorial Hospital. Bakos is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons (since 1981) and has had a busy general practice in the Rochester community since 1977.

His research interests include the use of power spectral analysis in the study of Cervico-Medullary Compression in Chiari malformations, and the use of radiation therapy for tumors in the Pineal region.

At the University, Bakos will focus on the neurosurgical management of pain, and will provide services to the University of Rochester's Pain Treatment Clinic. In addition, Bakos will continue with his general neurosurgical practice. He will practice at Strong, Genesee Hospital, and Highland Hospital.
