| 1) Nephrology Journal Club (weekly)
During this conference a recent article from the nephrologic literature is reviewed. Particular emphasis is placed on articles that stress mechanisms either of a disease or a basic biologic process. 2) Clinical Nephrology Conference (twice/month)
During this conference a specific patient is presented followed by an in depth presentation and discussion of the patient's disease process. The relevant literature is reviewed and patient management strategies discussed. Each first year fellow will present two journal lectures with PowerPoint slides and each second year fellow will present three, on a topic of their choice over the course of the year. 3) Nephrology Sign Out Rounds (weekly)
During this Friday noon conference all hospitalized renal patients are reviewed with particular emphasis on difficult diagnostic problems. 4) Renal Fellows Conference (weekly) alternating clinical and physiology
Over the course of the year the fellows and selected faculty members read and discuss an entire text in renal physiology on alternating years, clinical topics are addressed. 5) Nephrology Research Conference (monthly)
This conference is a forum for the presentation, by a faculty member or fellow, of their latest research. Often guest lecturers are invited to present their research. 6) Nephrology Biopsy Conference (twice/month)
This citywide conference, held at Strong Memorial Hospital, is organized by Bernard Panner, M.D., Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Conferences alternate between formal presentations of specific cases and informal, multi-headed microscopic examinations of recent biopsies. 7) Renal Transplant Conference (monthly)
The format of this conference varies from case presentation and discussion, to relevant journal club to presentation of a specific topic with review of the literature. 8) City Wide Nephrology Conference (bimonthly)
All of the nephrologists in the city meet to hear a talk on a relevant nephrologic topic. Speakers may be local or invited and a buffet dinner is served. |
