We understand that you can't plan when you'll get sick, so we try to keep our appointment times flexible to meet your needs. We will try to schedule a sick appointment on the same day that you call. If your doctor is not available when you call for an appointment, you may be offered an appointment with a different physician.

Your cooperation in arriving on time for your appointment helps us stay on schedule. If you need to cancel your appointment, please call us. You will be charged if you do not notify us within 24 hours. When you notify us, we can offer your appointment time to our other patients.

First-time Patients

First-time patients should arrive 15 minutes early for their scheduled appointment to allow for registration. To save time, fill out our new patient registration form and bring it with you.

Before your first appointment, call your doctor's office and have your records forwarded to our office. You will also need to contact your insurance company to change your primary care provider.

If you need medical care after hours or on the weekend, call our answering service at (585) 334-0130. Listen carefully to the message and follow the prompts. The answering service will page the doctor on call.

Practice Description

Welcome to Rush Family Medicine where both adults and children receive the highest quality medical care. Your doctor, nurse practitioner, and nurse will work with you and the important people in your life to develop the plan of care that is best for you. We believe that the more you know, the better decisions you will make about your health and the health of your family. We invite your participation by coming to appointments, bringing your medication, and asking questions.

Prescription Refills

Before coming to your appointment, check to see what prescription refills that you need, so we can provide them for you at the time of your visit. A prescription refill phone line is available for your convenience at 585-334-0130. Please allow up to 24 hours for the refill to be called into your pharmacy (The prescription line is not checked on weekends or holidays).

Routine refills are also available by telephone during regular office hours. If you find that you need an emergency refill during non-office hours, call the after hours answering service for assistance. Our office policy is that controlled substances must be picked up at the office, not phoned into the pharmacy or mailed to the patient, unless there are extenuating circumstances.

If you are on multiple medications or if you have trouble remembering which medications you are taking, bring your medications with you to your appointment.

Emergencies and Hospitalization

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room and have the hospital notify our office.

Most HMO insurance plans require prior approval of all emergency room visits. Please call our office at 585-334-0130 before obtaining these services.

Rush Family Medicine is an affiliate of Strong Health. We admit adult patients to Strong Memorial Hospital or Highland Hospital, and children are admitted to the Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong.

Billing and Insurance

Payment is due at the time of your visit. We accept cash, checks, Visa, and MasterCard credit cards. We also accept most major types of insurance, including Blue Choice, Preferred Care, and Medicaid. We accept assignment with Medicare insurance and bill local BlueCross/BlueShield as a primary or secondary insurance. Please be aware that you will receive a bill for any balance or non-covered service.

At the time of your appointment, please notify the office staff of any changes in your insurance coverage. Insurance co-payments are requested at the time of your visit, according to your HMO insurance plan agreement. Our staff will be happy to assist you with any billing questions that you may have.

Strong Health Teaches

All of the physicians at Rush Family Medicine will occassionally participate in teaching medical students and residents. Medical students and residents may be present in the office examining patients under the direct supervision of our doctors.

If you prefer not to have a student or resident involved in your appointment, please let us know and we'll be happy to accommodate you.
