For Nurses
I'd Still Be A Nurse Because...
I have worked as a nurse at Highland Hospital for 18 years, spending the last 15 years in the Ambulatory Procedure Center. Taking care of patients undergoing invasive procedures, I've found that it's the little things that you do as a nurse that matter the most to patients. Many of them have come back to Highland several times for endoscopic procedures, and it is so rewarding when a patient remembers that I took care of them five or even 10 years ago. It is also very fulfilling when returning patients ask if I am working that day.
Sometimes it's the little things that they remember about the time you took care of them, like offering them a blanket from the warmer when they were cold, or comforting them because they were anxious about a procedure they were about to have. These are the things that make me feel so good about being part of the nursing profession.
