Seminars & Events

Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Seminar Series

This is the Pathology Department's main conference, held Mondays at noon during the academic year. It brings together faculty, residents, graduate students, and other individuals from the Department and Medical Center. At the seminar, investigators from within and outside the University present their current research into the pathogenesis of a broad spectrum of human diseases.

Current Topics in Experimental Pathology (Pathology 504)

This graduate student course focuses on content from the above departmental seminar series, and other selected conferences. Graduate students are assigned to review the background and work of invited speakers, and to give introductions for them. At a weekly graduate student meeting, they present a preview of the speaker's area of research, distribute and review pertinent publications, and lead an informal discussion. They gain further experience in public speaking by presenting, once per year, the results of their own labortory investigative work.

George Hoyt Whipple Lecture

This annual endowed lectureship, sponsored by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, brings distinguished clinicians and researchers to the Medical Center. Graduate students and residents have an opportunity to meet and talk with the lecturer during the visit and at an informal luncheon. (George Hoyt Whipple, winner of the 1934 Nobel Prize in Medicine, was the first Dean of the Medical School and first Chairman of the Department of Pathology).

Research Day

Graduate students, residents, and fellows create poster presentations for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine's annual research day. This event provides an opportunity for departmental trainees to share the results of their work with the larger Medical Center community.

Medical Center Conferences and Events

The Medical Center as a whole provides many additional opportunities for students to participate in conferences and special events.
