Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program (SURF)
College students are selected from a national pool of over 100 candidates to participate in this nine-week program. In its design, this academic Entry Program strengthens participants' science, clinical, and research skills to enhance their competitiveness for careers in medicine and the biomedical sciences. SURF Program participants are matched with a faculty mentor and they conduct focused research in a medical center laboratory. The program includes seminars and activities, which allow for formal and informal discussions. Students are also exposed to weekly lectures/seminars, gross anatomy lectures and labs, clinical rotations in the Emergency Department, and Problem-Based Learning sessions to enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Participants receive a stipend, room, and board during this nine-week period. Application packages for this program are available in November of each year.
The Deadline for the 2008 SURF program is February 29, 2008. All applications materials must be received by this date.
