Undergraduate Research & Graduate Preparatory Programs

Graduate Preparation Programs

Graduate Preparation

The Graduate Education faculty of the School of Medicine and Dentistry provides summer undergraduate research programs to inform and encourage qualified science undergraduates to gain laboratory research experience as a means to develop career goals in science. One of these programs is a National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) in Cellular and Molecular Biology.

A post-baccalaureate research education program (PREP) focuses on providing opportunities for under represented minority students who have bachelor's degrees to augment their credentials by coursework and laboratory experience. This helps post-baccalaureate students with preparation for the doctoral degree (Ph.D.) and for subsequent careers in research and as leaders in biomedical sciences.

Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program

Graduate Preparations

The Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) at the University of Rochester Medical Center is designed to encourage underrepresented minorities who hold a recent baccalaureate degree in the bio-medically-relevant sciences, to pursue a research doctorate, and to prepare these trainees for careers as outstanding research scientists and leaders in the bio-medical community. Trainees of this program will acquire stronger research skills by working under the direction of participating faculty mentors, and they will improve the skills and competitiveness necessary for the successful pursuit of a graduate degree (Ph.D.).
