Laboratory Support Center

The Laboratory Support Center (LSC) is your Laboratory Assistant to help you achieve successful completion of your clinical or translational research project. Improvements in health care demand research that provides more specific knowledge of pathophysiologic mechanisms of disease and benefits of treatment intervention strategies. This demand requires the use of sophisticated and oftentimes very expensive technologies that are beyond the reach of many investigators, especially new investigators.

The LSC seeks to facilitate the interaction and "bridge the gap" between experts in cutting-edge technologies and clinical/translational researchers. This successful interaction would lead to enhanced project progress, completion of pilot studies needed for supporting data for extramural funding applications, and rapid implementation of novel disease treatments. The LSC provides information needed to promote collaborations between investigators and University core resources, assist investigators with details of accessing these labs, provide financial support required for new projects, monitor the progress of supported projects, and even find that piece of equipment needed to analyze your samples. Specifically, the LSC provides information and access to University Core Laboratories of: Imaging, Functional Genomics, Proteomics, Transgenics, Cell Sorting, and Vivarium services available to translational researchers. The LSC provides consultation, networking, and informatics that will remove "barriers" to researchers which will enhance project progress and successful completion.

The LSC has a limited amount of funds available to support laboratory work needed for clinical and translational research projects, particularly projects that are likely to lead to extramural support based on the preliminary data enabled by the CTSI funds. These funds are awarded via submission of a three-page application and competitive review process. This application can be found through additional links on this site.
