About Us
The Center for Community Health was established by the University of Rochester Medical Center to develop and expand academic-community health partnerships to support participatory research and interventions to measurably reduce health disparities and improve health.
Specifically, the Center for Community Health:
Develops and expands research and programs to improve community health
- Serves as a central resource for community individuals and organizations seeking support from faculty, students and staff
- Provides centralized coordination for addressing emerging health issues and funding opportunities
- Provides access to community health data, an inventory of community-based programs and information on best practices
- Assists faculty and students in designing and implementing community health projects
- Convenes and supports faculty throughout the medical center who are engaged in community health research
The Center’s programs have resulted in improved health in a number of critical areas. Examples include increased rates and decreased disparities in screening for breast and cervical cancer; increased rates and decreased disparities in adult immunization levels; and increased smoking cessation attempts among neighborhood health center patients.
