Center for Vaccine Biology and Immunology
Building on the existing strong programs in Immunology, Microbiology and Vaccine Biology at the University of Rochester, the Center for Vaccine Biology and Immunology focusses on basic research into immunological mechanisms, and also on the long-term goal of helping to design the next generation of vaccines. The Center occupies 31,500 square feet of exceptional research space on the top floor of the recently (1999) constructed Kornberg Medical Research Building at the University of Rochester Medical Center. In addition, faculty throughout the Medical Center, including those in the new research building, share state-of-the-art core facilities which are housed in the new research building and elsewhere.
The University of Rochester's Department of Microbiology and Immunology has been awarded several highly competitive training grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). These training grants provide for specific educational and training opportunities, as well as stipend support, for Microbiology and Immunology Ph.D. students working in the areas of Immunology, Microbial Pathogenesis, Oral Microbiology, and HIV Pathogenesis. Additional information is available at: Post-doctoral positions: Post-doctoral positions with members of the Center are available. Applications should be sent to the investigator. Current Faculty of the Center for Vaccine Biology and Immunology:
Tim R. Mosmann, Ph.D.
Nick Crispe, Ph.D.
Deborah Fowell, Ph.D.
Alexandra Livingstone, Ph.D.
Jim Miller, Ph.D.
Andrea Sant, Ph.D. David J. Topham, Ph.D. Kim, Minsoo, Ph.D. Investigators in the center have extensive collaborations with investigators in various departments resulting in several large collaborative grants and contracts in the areas of influenza, human immunology, mathematical modeling of immune response and responses in immunocompromized populations, vaccine response evaluation, autoimmunity and HIV vaccines.
