Cellular Signaling and Regulation
- G protein Coupled Receptors
- Calcium Signaling
- Protein Kinases
- Second Messenger Pathways
Signal transduction is the molecular basis for cellular communication, ie., how hormones, growth factors, or pharmacological compounds regulate cell physiology, mitogenesis, and differentiation through binding to receptors. Defects in this cellular communication are responsible for a number of cancers and cardiovascular diseases. G protein coupled receptors are major targets for current therapeutics and therapeutic development. Understanding mechanisms of action of these receptor regulated systems will lead to novel strategies for therapeutic development.
